Nigella Lawson mobbed by transphobes

A headshot of Nigella Lawson smiling while standing in front of a fridge and wearing a red dress. I know, its a headshot so how do I know its a dress? I’ll never tell.

quick content warning: there is some minor discussion of domestic violence here so feel free to give this a pass if its not for you.

But of course, I don’t tend to write positive articles so when is the other shoe going to drop? Sadly, It already did. Almost immediately after Nigella’s post she was inundated with transphobes doing their thing and being transphobic. After a quick skim of her feed, a Nigella tweet usually gets less than 30 responses and about 500 likes, being generous. Twitter is clearly not the platform she uses all that often and her engagement reflects that. The “this is rather lovely tweet” currently has almost 300 responses and 7,000 likes. A lot of it is transphobia.

Some of which even went as far as to invoke the fact that Nigella is a survivor of male violence, with that story having hit the press in 2013, complete with photos of said violence occurring. Meaning any old asshole who doesn’t like her has been able to send those pictures over and retraumatise her over and over again. The press should never have published those photos, they should have turned them over to the authorities but no, they had a story and what’s one woman’s life vs all the money they could make running those pictures? Fucking ghouls.
