More Than Just An Object

Wood-shaping, self-knowing

Expressing myself through shaping a piece of wood.
My hands transform it by using many tools.
But none of these dependent machines or tools could work
if I wasn’t here to alchemize my inner substances into “gold”.
Through the paignion with the wood, I try to know myself,
forming material to perceive what else I really am.
I manage life’s challenges within my sacred lab.
I keep my creativity’s “muscles” strong and alive.
My thoughts become a table, a wardrobe, or a chair.
My feelings are more controllable when I finish, having dared
to use my intuition, not just go “by the book”;
my sensuous system makes the empirical proof obvious.
Professional or amateur? Oh, it doesn’t matter.
I give life to ideas while trying to perceive what happens
within myself, my microcosm, and also in the world.
And when I say my every artistic piece’s final word,
what I’ve conquered, and produced, and brought to life
is more than the object you see in front of your eyes.

Note: Paignion= game, playing (from the Greek word παιχνίδι). It doesn’t refer only to the children’s playing, but it is also used to express a means of learning, entertainment, psychagogy(guidance of the soul).
